- Norma O. Koch, lifetime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 11, 2017. She was 87. She was born in Niagara Falls on August 24, 1930, a daughter of the late Felix and Marie (Hertel) Hartwig. She attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School and the Deaconess School of Nursing.
Norma married John Koch in 1951 and together they formed Koch Tile in 1954, which they successfully ran until John’s passing in 1987 at which time their son Douglas took over and continues to run the business to this day. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels, where she served as finance officer, and she loved sewing, gardening, bowling and was an avid classical music fan.
Mrs. Koch is survived by her three children: Deborah Lee (Gary) Panton, Sharon Maerten and Douglas Koch, 5 grandchildren: Kevin Maerten, Andrew (Alexis) Maerten, Alison (Darrell) Borkenhagen, Danielle Koch and Deanna Koch and three great-grandchildren: Jocelyn, Brooklyn and Darren Borkenhagen.
In Addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two siblings: William Hartwig and Jeanette (Hartwig) Haseley.
There will be no visitation and funeral services will be held Thursday, December 14 at 11 AM at St. Paul Evangelical Church, 18th Street and Cleveland Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14301, followed by burial in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Bergholz.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Paul Evangelical Church or Meals on Wheels, 1920 18th Street, Niagara Falls 14304.
