- Phyllis Philomena Zygmont, 82, died November 12, 2009 at Niagara Hospice House, Lockport, after a brief struggle with cancer. Born in Niagara Falls, she was the daughter of Italian immigrants Vincenzo "Vincent" and Grazia "Grace" (Giordano) Pasqualichio. Phyllis interrupted high school in 1944 and '45 to work at the Hooker Chemical Co. in Niagara Falls as part of the national war effort during World War II. After returning and graduating from Niagara Falls High School, she went to work in the laboratory of the paper-making factory of the Kimberly-Clark Co. in Niagara Falls. There she met her husband, Casimer J. "Casey" Zygmont. The couple was married on November 17, 1951. After her wedding, Phyllis worked primarily as a homemaker. She raised three sons, starting at her husband's family home on Hyde Park Boulevard near Niagara University. In 1961 the family moved to a new home in the Colonial Village section of the Town of Niagara, where Phyllis lived for 48 years. Phyllis worked part time as the court clerk while her husband served as Town Justice in the Town of Niagara from 1950 to 1992. Through the 1960s she was an active member of the Mothers Club of the St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus School in Niagara Falls. During the early 1970s, Phyllis participated in the parents booster group of Niagara Wheatfield High School, supporting the school's athletic programs. She was a long-standing member of the St. Francis Guild, the volunteer fund-raising organization of Mount St. Mary's Hospital. For many years, Phyllis volunteered her Friday afternoons and evenings to staff the gift cart at Mount St. Mary's. Phyllis was an avid reader, a recreational singer who took voice lessons as a girl, and an expert crochet knitter. She will be remembered from the many crocheted table coverings, window coverings, bed spreads and apparel she gave to family and friends. Phyllis is appreciated by her family for the care she gave to her husband as he aged, until Casey Zygmont died at home in her company early this year.
