- Gladys M. Urtel, age 92, of Northgate Manor, formerly of Bergholz, was called to her heavenly home on Friday, November 6, 2009 at the facility. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY on May 21, 1917 to the late Walter and Elsie (Ostwald) Urtel. She was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School and was employed as a secretary at the Carborundum Company-Coated Abrasives Division, in Wheatfield, for 40 years, retiring in 1977. Gladys was a lifelong member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Bergholz, where she served faithfully as the church secretary for over 40 years, Sunday School teacher over 50 years, past secretary of the congregation for several years, Altar Guild Leader for many years and LWML Leader. She also served many years as the WNY AAL Federation Secretary and the Niagara County Sunday School Institute Secretary for many years. Gladys was a member of the Wheatfield Senior Citizens.Survivors include a sister, Irene D. Walck of North Tonawanda; eight nieces and nephews, Dorothy E. Rothrock of North Tonawanda, Ralph W. Walck of Orlando, FL, Marcia R. Walck of North Tonawanda, Patricia J. Scholl of Lithonia, GA, Sandra G. Sledziewski of Wheatfield, Clair W. Walck of Niagara Falls, Robert W. Walck and Gordon R. Walck, both of North Tonawanda; and numerous great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.Friends may call at the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME, 2436 Niagara Road (Bergholz), in Wheatfield, on Sunday from noon-4 PM and 6-8 PM. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Philip N. Sallach on Monday at 10:30 AM in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, corner Niagara Road and Luther Street, in Bergholz.
