  Notes	North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 6/18/1946 Mr. and Mrs. John Wendler of 58 Falconer street celebrated their Golden Anniversary last night with a family dinner in Cosmo Inn followed by a reception to friends and neighbors in their home. The parents of two children. Miss- Mary Wendler and William Wendler, the couple have lived in the Falconer street home during their entire married life. They have two grandchildren. Mr. Wendler came to North Tonawanda 37 years ago from Wolcottsburg, N. Y. Finding employment here he worked for seven years before returning to his home town to marry his childhood sweetheart, Lizette Wollenberg. Mr. Wendler's first job in the Tonawandas was painting merrygo- round horses for the old Armitage Herschell Co., and his subsequent career has followed this work ever since. His leadership won him early promotion and he wss finally put in complete charge of merry-go-round manufacture in the plant. When the Armitage- Herschell Co. discontinued the manufacture of the famous amusement devices, Mr. Wendler and the late Allan Herschell and Frederick Fritche organized the Allen Herschell Company. The company rapidly expanded snd following the death of Messrs Herschell and Fritche, Mr. Wendler and his son, William, then just out of college, acquired full ownership. A year ago they purchased the business of the Spillman Engineering Co. so that today, Mr. Wendler hesds the largest amusement ride manufacturing company in the world. At seventy six years, he at still working a regular hour day and is, according to his fellow employees, the first one at the office every morning, in fact you can set your watch by John Wendler's appearance at t a.m. Both Mr. and Mrs. Wendler enjoy exceptionally good health. They attribute this to absence of worry and regular hours. They have taken but one vacation in their entire married life. Their many neighbors and friends joined in wishing them a continuance of a long and happy life together. Mr. snd Mrs. Wendler received many gifts and floral tokens, among them a beautiful basket of 50 yellow roses, significant of the occasion.

  NF Gazette, Dec 15, 1952 John Wendler, Amusement Plant President Dies NORTH TONAWANDA. Dec. 15 - John Wendler. 82, president of the world's largest amusement ride factory, died yesterday following a heart attack at his home, 58 Falconer street. Mr. Wendler became interested in merry-go-rounds while still a boy on his father's farm near Wolcottsburg. Two German immigrants were building the county's first carrousel in a neighbor's barn. He never lost that youthful enthusiasm for the merry go round and in 1899, he left the farm to become a pony painter in the Armitage Herschell company here. He worked up through various jobs to become president and treasurer of the concern, now the Allan Herschell Company, Inc. The compant makes several other rides. Mr. Wendler was a member of St Matthew's Lutheran Church and the Columbia Volunteer Hook & Ladder Company 1. He was also a member of many showman's and carnival organizations including the Showman's League of America, the National Association of Amusement Parks, Pools, and Beaches, and the American Carnival Association. His is survived by a daughter, Miss Mary Wendler, of the Falconer St address, a brother August, Medina, three sisters, Mrs. William Bald, and Mrs. Elmer Altrogge, both of Clarence Center, and Mrs. William Bollman, Lockport. His wife Lizette Wollenberg Wendler died two years ago. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 pm at the Wattengel Funeral Home with the rev. Paul Gassman, pastor of St Matthews Church officiating. burial will be in Elmlawn Cemetery.
