- James Church Obituary
James W. Church, 75, of Sanborn, NY, passed away on October 11, 2024, surrounded by his devoted family. James was born June 4, 1949 in Lockport, NY to the late Kenneth P. Church and the late Francis W. [Wyman] Church.
He was the beloved husband of 52 years of Donna L. [Demmin] Church, loving father of Andrew J. (Jill) Church and Mariah E. (Victor) Eydt, proud grandfather of his four grandsons: Connor A. Church, Evan J. Church, Wyatt M. McCurry and Blake P. McCurry, brother of Ray L. (Cathy) Church and Helen L. (Bob) Schimshack. James is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
James graduated from Niagara Wheatfield High School in 1968 and was quickly drafted into the U.S. Army that same year where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War until he was honorably discharged in 1970.
James worked for General Motors for 35 years. After retiring, he went on to work for the New York State Parks Department as a trolley operator where he had been for the past 20 years. James served his community as an active member of Pekin Volunteer Fire Company since 1980 where he held many positions including President. He was also a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church of Bergholtz, NY.
James lived an active life where he enjoyed hunting, gardening, bird watching and traveling. He most enjoyed watching and supporting his grandsons at their various sporting events. His favorite times were when he was with his adoring wife and family and with his dog Rascal on his lap.
The family will be present at the Rhoney Funeral Home, 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn, NY on Friday October 18th from 2-4 and 7-9PM. Funeral services will be held at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, 6630 Luther Street, Bergholtz , NY on Saturday October 19th at 10 AM. Interment will be immediately following at Holy Ghost Cemetery in Bergholtz, NY.
