Myron D. Schaffer, 79, of the Town of Wheatfield, NY, died Saturday, June 6, 2009 in the Northgate Health Care Facility, following a long illness. Myron was born in Niagara Falls, NY on October 2, 1929, the son of Rudolph and Mildred (Davis) Schaffer, where he attended local schools.He served in the United States Army during World War II and received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army Occupation Medal Japan. Myron moved to the Town of Wheatfield in 1955 and was employed by the Niagara Wheatfield Central School District as a school custodian, prior to retiring in 1984. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and grandchildren.He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, the former Marion E. Krull; a son, Michael S. (Elaine) Schaffer; a daughter, Karen (Dennis) Sattelberg; a sister, Barbara (Elton) DeVantier, all of Town of Wheatfield, NY; four grandchildren, Mark and Gregg Siegmann, Matthew and Michele Schaffer; and six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late James C. Schaffer and Louise Clevely.The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-9 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, Sanborn, 5893 Hoover Road. Funeral services will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda, NY, at 11 AM on Wednesday, June 10th, with Rev. Ronald D. Oravec officiating. Interment in St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery.
