- Dorothy Emma Haack, 91, of Effingham, grasped the loving hand of God, as He whispered Dorothy it is time to come home, on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at Lutheran Care Center, Altamont. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Effingham, with the Rev. Earl Brown officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Effingham. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church and one hour Thursday before the service at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Effingham or Lutheran Care Center, Altamont. Dorothy was born on March 16, 1923, in Keptown, the daughter of Albert and Martha (Brauer) Proefrock. She married Alvin G. Haack on August 17, 1952, in Altamont, and he preceded her in death on April 26, 2011. Dorothy was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Lydia Guild and LWML. She was employed as a cook for Effingham Unit 40, beginning her career at East Side School and retired as a head cook at South Side School. Dorothy will be greatly missed by family and friends who enjoyed her dry sense of humor. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and especially enjoyed gardening and her beautiful flowers. Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Nancy (husband, Tom) Marrs of Conifer, Colorado, Janet (husband, Bob) Brinkopf of Effingham and Linda (husband, Mark) Kissel of Conifer, Colorado; grandchildren, Paul Marrs, Jeffrey (wife, Ali) Brinkopf, David (fiancée, Elesha) Brinkopf, Elizabeth (husband, Rick) Dasenbrock, Christina (husband, Christopher) Hogan, Kimberly (husband, Ken) Kasper, Amanda Kissel and Nithree great- granddaughters, McKenzie, Abigail and Olivia; one great-grandson, Leighton; and sisters, Evelyn Herrick of Akron, Ohio and Mildred Conrad of Utica.
