NORTH TONAWANDA. May 25 -
Edward Williams. 52 years old, 1231
Payne avenue, was killed instantly
when hit by a train at the Washington
street crossing. North Tonawanda. Saturday.
John Fonslow, Schenk street.
and Howard Robinson. Jumped from
Williams' automobile Just before the
fatal crash.
The three men were en route home
from work, and were crossing the tracks
when Robinson and Fonslow noticed
the Buffalo bound passenger train
speeding down on them. Fonslow pulled
open the door and Jumped. Robinson
followed him. Both clutched at Williams
and attempted to pull him from
the car. but the train was so close they
were forced to leap to the side of the
tracks to save their own lives.

at 7.80 Saturday evening, when It's
automobile stalled on the Wash-
ington street crossing of the New
York Central railroad and was
struck by a Buffalo bound passenger
train.
John Fanslow, Jr., 26, of 213
Schenk street and Howard Robinson,
25, of Ward road, who were
also in the car, saw the train
coming and jumped to safety before
the crash.
Tried to Save Wliiiams
Fanslow and Williams both attempted
to pull Williams from behind
the steering wheel. The
latter apparently did not see the
train coming or was too excited
to aid himself. The train, however,
was too close for Williams
companions to complete the task
of assisting him from the auto.
The three men were enroute
home from work. The auto was
carried about 50 feet by the locomotive
and tossed into a ditch
beside the tracks. Williams' hotly
was removed from the wreckage.
Coroner J. E. Helwig issued a certificate
of accidental death.
Williams is survived by his
wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Williams
four sons, LeRoy. E., Harold E.,
Howard A , and Earl; a daughter.
Mrs. Albert Drew, all of North
Trmawancla; six brothers, Jerome
Williams of North Tonawanda,
John and Fred Williams of White
Haven, Pa.. Philip and Bernard
of Weatherly, Pa., and Andrew
of Scranton. Pa.
Member Electric City Lodge
He was a member of Electric
City lodge. No. 663. I.O.O.F., and
Enterprise Encampment of this
city.
Funeral services will he held
tomorrow afternoon at 2.:30 from
the late residence. The Rev. Ernest
Brauer of Grace Lutheran
church will officiate and interment
will be in Acacia park cemetery.
The Odd Fellows will be
in charge.
