NORTH TONAWANDA — Charles Grant Kent, of North Tonawanda, age 86, passed away at home on October 19, 2011, following a long illness. Mr. Kent was born on August 7, 1925 in North Tonawanda, son of the late John and Alta Kent. He graduated from North Tonawanda High School.
Mr. Kent served in the United States Navy during WWII from November 15, 1943, until his Honorable Discharge on February 7, 1946. During his naval tour he served in the Seabee's. Mr. Kent retired from the General Motors Tonawanda Plant. He was a Member of Payne Ave. Christian Church, where he served as an elder for many years. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Lockport, he volunteered at the library for many years assisting people with income tax filings. He loved to read and was a collector of many things.
Beloved husband of 64 years of Shirley (nee Gaiser) Kent; dear father of Barbara (Richard) Calkins of North Tonawanda, Ellen (John) Harbridge of North Tonawanda and Richard (Kelley) Kent of Niagara Falls; brother of Gertrude Proefrock, late Dorothy Driscoll and late Virginia Wehrung; also survived by five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
No prior visitation. A Memorial Service and Military Honors will be held on November 5, 2011 from Payne Ave. Christian Church, 1451 Payne Ave. at 11:00 AM, the Rev. Jerry McGlone will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Payne Ave. Christian Church. Private interment in Acacia Park Cemetery. Arrangements by WATTENGEL Funeral Home.
