- Jenny Ferlito, 91, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully with her family on Saturday, July 29, 2023. Born in Niagara Falls, she was the daughter of the late Gaetano and Maria (Trapasso) Schiro.
Jenny was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School. On December 22, 1951, she married her beloved husband, James ‘Jim’ Ferlito at St. Joseph’s Church. Jim was drafted during the Korean War. She was without him for 18 months. They exchanged many letters and she attended novenas for his safe return home. Jenny worked at Moore Business Forms, the A&P and throughout the Niagara Falls School District as a Teacher’s Aide at Niagara Falls High School and G.J. Mann school for many years prior to her retirement. Jenny loved working with the students and staff who she regarded as very dear friends.
Upon her retirement from Niagara Falls school district, Jenny and Jim joined the family business, The Country Cottage Restaurant in Pendleton, NY, a place they both adored. Employees and customers knew her as “Grandma”. Jenny hostessed and engaged in conversations with everyone. She knew customers by name and loved asking about their families. She would make them feel welcome and everyone enjoyed seeing her at the register as they would check out. Jenny was present at the Country Cottage smiling and waving at everyone a week prior to her passing. The restaurant was a place she loved.
Jenny and Jim were longtime members of the Moose Lodge, and enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, Atlantic City and Lake Tahoe. They enjoyed bowling and participated in several local bowling leagues. Jenny loved going to the Casino, but above all, she cherished her family. Nothing was more important to her than her parents, husband, sisters, children, grandchildren and great-children. This love was always expressed around the table at Sunday dinners. She cooked weekly without fail. The table was always perfectly set, and her famous meatballs and bones were always coveted. Her home was always open and she welcomed everyone. We always had a room upstairs to come home to. She made certain her grandchildren were in church, were fed, had fun and never went without anything. Jenny was an incredible woman who loved deeply, enjoyed people and always reminded her family how grateful she was for everyone. Jenny lived at home and was very active up until her passing, which was a gift.
Jenny was predeceased by her husband in 2020. She is survived by her son, Thomas (Cheryl) Ferlito; her grandchildren, Aliscia (Richard) Krecisz, Nicole Ferlito (Douglas ‘Jay’ Hamilton), Anthony Ferlito (Danielle Ranney), Tommy Ferlito, Jimmy Ferlito, III, Jamie (John) Bernier, and Joey (Randi) Ferlito and Johnathan Ferlito; her great-grandchildren, Izabella and Sofia Krecisz, Jaydan, Savanna, and Trevor Ferlito, Dominic Ferlito, Emma and Jackson Bernier, and Aiden and Aria Ferlito; her nephew, Jeffery Wilson, as well as several other beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her beloved son, Jimmy (Joanie Dell) Ferlito and siblings, Phyllis (late Joseph) Fantrazzo, Julie (late Thomas) Guzzi and Joan Wilson.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 3 from 9:30 – 10:30 AM in Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph’s Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, where Jenny’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM.
