Fred R. "Fritz" Burtch 92, of North Tonawanda, Wednesday (January 21, 2015), surrounded by family in Gowanda Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Gowanda, NY. Fred was born in North Tonawanda on June 24, 1922 to Ada (Gillespie) and Frederick Burtch. Fred was the son of a pharmacist, Frederick, who owned and operated Burtch Drugs Store on Webster Street in the 1920's and 1930's. He enlisted into the military and served his country during W.W. II as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Fred fought in the European Theatre of the war for three years as a radio operator on C-47 transport planes and flew over France on the day of the Allied invasion. Fred returned home and married Betty Jane (Nicholson) in 1949, He became the Vice President of Sales at Ontario Containers, Inc. Fred was known by friends and family for his humor and good-natured spirit. Fred was predeceased by his wife of 35 years Betty Jane (Nicholson), and his second wife Marie (Goerss) Burtch.
Fred is survived by his sons John (Bettie), Thomas (Nancy) Burtch, brother of the late James (Ruth) and Charles E. (Helen) Burtch, grandfather of Steven and Michael Burtch.
Friends may call Monday from 10 A.M.-12 P.M. at the Wattengel Funeral Home, 533 Meadow Drive, North Tonawanda, where funeral services will follow. Interment Mount View Cemetery. The family expresses their gratitude to Sterling House of Niagara and Fredonia Place Memory Care. Flowers gratefully declined.
