(nee Schmeichel) Hy, age 87, of North Tonawanda and formerly of the City of Tonawanda, Thursday December 5, 2013, at her current residence in Park Creek Assisted Living, under Hospice care. Velma was the wife of Robert H. Hy, who died in 1999; and the daughter of the late Edward and Cora (nee Kopp) Schmeichel. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She is survived by five children, Kathleen (Mark) Pridemore of Morgan, TX, James (Michelle) Hy of Brant, NY, Richard (Rosario) Hy of Buffalo, Robert (Kim) Hy of Wendell, NC, and Lori (Sal) Minotti of Cheektowaga, NY; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; her sister, Janet (the late Thomas) Fleming and her brother, Robert (Mabel) Schmeichel, both of North Tonawanda. Also several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at John O. Roth Funeral Home, Inc., 25 William St. (between Morgan & Broad Sts.), in Tonawanda, where funeral services will be conducted at 8 PM Monday following the visitation. The Rev. Andrew Abraham will officiate. A private burial will be in Acacia Park Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined.
