Edward D. Sydor

LOCKPORT — Edward D. Sydor, of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, in Niagara Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Buffalo, NY on July 9, 1927, a son of the late Walter and Lottie (Maday) Sydor.
Mr. Sydor graduated from Trott Vocational High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Sydor was a salesman with KD Supply in North Tonawanda, for over 30 years, before retiring in 1994. He was a Life Member of the Sanborn Fire Co. and Tri Community Ambulance. He was the Captain of the Fire Police and a member of the Niagara County Fire Police Association. Mr. Sydor was a charter member of the Sanborn Fire Co. Exempts and served as President and a board member. He was a member of the Sanborn Historical Society, the Sanborn Senior Citizens, the 1st Baptist Church of Sanborn and the Sanborn American Legion Post #969.
Mr. Sydor was a blood donor with the Red Cross and donated platelets at Roswell Park. He played semi-pro football at Krull Park and also played softball and hockey over the years, and was a member the Sanborn Businessman's Bowling League. Mr. Sydor loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening, helping others and will be remembered for never saying no to anyone.
Mr. Sydor was the husband of 47 years to the late Mary Jane (Schuman) Sydor, who died in November of 2009.
He is survived by four children, Sherry (Willard) Haseley of Niagara Falls, Bonnie (Rick) Morrison of Tonawanda, NY, David E. Sydor of North Tonawanda, NY, Barbara (Thomas) Heldwein of Lockport, NY; six grandchildren, Kristen Haseley, Dannielle (Todd) Galas, Darlene (Nicholas) Hanel, Amanda (Edward) Shattuck, Jacob and Lucas Heldwein; five great-grandchildren, Aiden and Tyler Shattuck, Sydney Galas, Evan and Ellyse Hanel; one brother, Richard (Clair) Sydor; one sister Lynn Bowling. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Mary Cousino and Ruth Craft.
The family will be present at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn, NY on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. John A. Marshall officiating. Memorial services by the Sanborn American Legion will be conducted Sunday at 7 PM, followed by the Sanborn Fire Company at 7:30 PM. Interment with Military Honors in White Chapel Memorial Park, Amherst, NY. Memorials may be made in his name to Niagara Hospice, Inc., 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
