- William "Bill" Nichols passed away on April 15, 2019, at age 81, in Batavia, NY, where he lived with his longtime companion, Diane Ball. William was born in Niagara Falls, NY, in September 1937 to the late Miles Nichols and the late Marie (Korff), Nichols Hillman. He resided in Lewiston for most of his life, where he took over the family farm and Nichols Farm Market upon the passing of his father. Later in life, he also worked for Orkin. William attended Stella Niagara Catholic School and graduated from Lewiston Porter High School. He attended SUNY Agricultural and Technical Institute at Morrisville, and graduated in 1957. He also attended dairy school in Kansas. William was a long time member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Lewiston NY. He was a member of the Niagara County Farmer's Bureau, the Lewiston Kiwanis Club, and the 4H Club of Niagara County, where he served as President. His interests were in farming, antique farm equipment, steam engines and trains. He is survived by his children from his first marriage to Joanne, David Nichols of North Carolina, Scott (Darlene) Nichols of the Town of Niagara, and Karen (Alex) Scalzo of the Town of Niagara; and his children from his second marriage to Jane, Cheryl (Michael) Newton of Wilson, and Shawn Haseley of Niagara Falls. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Matthew (Lisa) Nichols, Ashley Nichols, Jason (Ashley) Scarf, Justin Scarf, Nicole Newton, Kyle Scalzo, Alexis Scalzo; and great-granddaughter, Raegan Nichols Sloma; as well as several cousins. William donated his body to science at The University of Buffalo. A memorial service will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, 915 Oneida Street, Lewiston NY 14092, on May 4, 2019 at 11:00 AM. A celebration of life luncheon will be held immediately after the service. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, consider sending a memorial donation to Messiah Lutheran Church.
