1958 Graduate of Tonawanda High School and Consultant for the Niagara Falls School System
Ronald C. "Ruggy" Shiesley, age 75 of Niagara Falls and formerly of the City of Tonawanda, unexpectedly Thursday, January 15, 2015. A resident of Niagara Falls for the past 20 years, he was the son of the late Lester L. Sr. and Hazel Mislin Shiesley and brother of the late Vern, Robert and Gerald Shiesley and Jean Emery. Ronald was a 1958 graduate of Tonawanda High School where he excelled in Football, Baseball and Basketball and was inducted into the Tonawanda High School Athletic Wall of Fame. He also attended Boston University. He was employed as Consultant for Niagara Falls School System and was a former Commissioner of Niagara County Parks and also Niagara Falls Parks and Public Works. He was a mentor of youth for many in Western New York. Ron founded Big Daddy's Pizzeria in 1982 and was former owner of Jolly Rug's, both in North Tonawanda. He was a member of the Eldredge Club, Third Warders Social Club, LaSalle Yacht Club, Niagara County Judges and Police Assn. and DeFasio Stadium Grill Sports Club.
He is survived by his son, Robert C. (Lynn Broncato) Shiesley; his grandson Karl D. Shiesley and his former wife Sandra Shiesley, all of North Tonawanda; 3 sisters, Arlene (the late Irvin) Jaenecke of Rochester, Betty (Richard) Graham of Gasport and Nancy (Donald) Holler of Tonawanda; 5 brothers, Lee (Sharon) Shiesley of Cheektowaga, Lynn (Rochelle) Shiesley of North Tonawanda, John (Rosann) Shiesley of Lancaster, Lester (Karen) Shiesley of Wheatfield and James (Barbara) Shiesley on Tonawanda; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Monday from 2-4 and 6-9 PM at John O. Roth Funeral Home, Inc., 25 William St. (between Morgan & Broad Sts) in Tonawanda. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Tuesday in Salem United Church of Christ, 114 Morgan St. in Tonawanda. The Rev. Jeremy Lopez will officiate. A private interment will be in Elmlawn Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined, memorial contributions may be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
