Veteran Retired
Teacher Passes
Miss Catherine L. Shomers, of
727 Spruce avenue, who spent 43
years as a teacher in Niagara Falls
schools before retiring tn 1936. died
in Mount S t Mary's hospital this
morning at the age of 70.
A native and lifelong resident of
Niagara Falls, Miss Shomers was
a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Peter Shomers, pioneer residents.
Her father was a veteran of the
Civil War who died in 1913. She
was one of the first kindergarten
teachers to serve in local schools
when that phase of education was
organized here.
She is survived by a brother, John
P Shomers, of this city.
The funeral will be held from
the Redanz funeral home at 8:15
a.m. Wednesday, with services at
St. Mary's church at 9 a.m. Inter-
ment will be made in Gate of Hea-
ven cemetery.
