MEDINA — James L. Eggert, of Middleport, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2010 at the Medina Memorial Healthcare System. Mr. Eggert was born in North Tonawanda, NY on November 8, 1930, son of the late Lester and Lydia (Witkop) Eggert.
He had lived in Middleport all of his life and was employed at Quality Markets in Lockport as a meat cutter until retirement. He and his wife, Shirley R. (Hodgins) Eggert were married July 21, 1951 in Ridgewood Lutheran Church. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and he enjoyed his family, hunting and fishing.
He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley R. Eggert on November 4, 2010; and by two siblings, Karen Mattoon and Donald Eggert.
He is survived by two children, Peg Homesberger of Wilson and Douglas (Liz) Eggert of Middleport; three grandchildren, Amy (Scott) Kassmann, Douglas Homesberger and Jonathan Eggert, all of Middleport. Also surviving are two great-grandchildren, Hope Kassmann and Jessica Kassman, both of Middleport; a brother, Edward (Barbara) Eggert of Barker; a sister, Ruth Wells of Medina and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Monday from 12 noon to 4:00 PM at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Rt. 31, Middleport, NY, where funeral services will follow at 4:00 PM, with the Rev. David Triplett officiating. Burial will be in Hartland Central Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Eastern Niagara Variety Kids Satellite would be appreciated by the Eggert family.
