- Mike Szabad, of North Tonawanda, entered into eternal rest, Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at the age of 85, while under the care of Niagara Hospice, surrounded by his family. Born in Romania, Mr. Szabad resided in North Tonawanda for the past fifty-seven years and was a retired employee of National Grinding Wheel and a former employee of Tonawanda Iron Works. He was a member of the North Tonawanda Seniors (Goundry St.). Mike and his wife, Paula, celebrated their 57th Wedding Anniversary on November 29, 2009. Beloved husband of Paula M. (nee Ford) Szabad; dearest father of James (Cheryl) Szabad of North Tonawanda, Thomas (Bonnie) Szabad of Tonawanda and Sandra (Thomas) Drummer of Sanborn; proud and loving grandfather of Jason Szabad, Kyle Drummer and Joshua Drummer and great- grandchildren, Jemini, Axavier and Ariana; dear brother of Ann Tamas of Montreal, Canada and Alexander (Sylvia) Szabad of Grand Island; also survived by several nieces and nephews. The family will be present to greet relatives and friends on SATURDAY, January 16th from 12 Noon to 4:00 PM at the SABER FUNERAL HOME, 549 Oliver St., North Tonawanda (692-0271), where funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM immediately following visitation with Rev. John Tipton officiating. Flowers graciously declined.
