- Roger A. Manth, age 79, of North Tonawanda, died Sunday, January 17, 2010 at DeGraff Memorial Hospital, after a long illness. Born in North Tonawanda, he was the son of the late Edward and Minnie (nee Proefrock) Manth and served in the New York Air National Guard from 1949 to 1955, including his active duty during the Korean War from 1950 to 1951. A lifelong resident of North Tonawanda, Roger was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in the Town of Tonawanda and a former member of Friedens United Church of Christ, where he was a former council member. He had worked for the New York Central Railroad and then the United States Postal Service in North Tonawanda from 1959 until his retirement in 1992, and was presently employed at Shawnee Country Club. Mr. Manth was a member of the American Legion, Stephen Sikora Post #1322, the New York State Big Buck Club, the Inner Harbor Yacht Club, of which he was Commodore in 1994, International Order of Blue Gavel, which consists of past commodores of yacht clubs, and was a former member of the Swiftwater Power Squadron and the Senior Citizens in both North Tonawanda and Honeoye, NY. Roger was an avid fisherman and hunter, loved gardening, his cottage on Honeoye Lake, and boating. He was the brother of the late Burton (Mary) Manth and Gerald (Evelyn) Manth.He is survived by his wife, Arlene (nee Gorman) Manth; and a sister, Winifred (Erwin) Werth. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins, and his beloved cat, Brandy, and three other cats, Chessie, Shawnee and Taffy. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Wednesday only at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday at Zion United Church of Christ on Koenig Road in Tonawanda. Friends invited. Interment with Military Honors will be at Elmlawn Cemetery.
