Ilion - Arleigh L Slocum, 78, of 35 S. Third Ave, a
former village policeman and an engraver for Remington
Rand, died yesterday in Ilion Hospital after a long illness
He was born May 21. 1882. in llion. son of Arthur E and
Sarah Fitch Slocum. He attended Ilion schools, and was a
graduate of the La Porte Watch and Engraving School,
LaPorte, Indiara.
He married Florence Crim
July 8, 1918, in llion. Mr
Slocum also operated a jewelry
store_on Union -St. for several
years. He worked for Remington
Rand for 28 years, before
his retirement four years ago.
He was a member of the
Prebsyterian Church and of
Remington Rand's 25-Year
Club.
Besides his wife, he leaves
a brother, Arthur; a grand-
daughter, Mrs. Audrey Soren-
son and a grandson, William
Slocum, all of Ilion; five great
grandchildren; several nieces
and nephews.
The funeral will be at 2
Thursday from the Whiter-
Hendrix Funeral Home, with
the Rev. Mourice Mitchell,
pastor of Presbyterian Church,
officiating. Burial will be in
Armory Hill Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral
home will be from 2 to 4 and
7 to 9 tomorrow and Wednes-
day.
