- W. Lincoln Smith, age 96, of Wilson, entered into rest on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Eastern Niagara Hospital in Newfane. Born February 12, 1913 in Cambria, he was the son of the late Warren and Elizabeth (nee Fitzgerald) Smith.Lincoln was married to Ruth Myers November 11, 1939 at Our Lady of the Rosary R.C. Church in Wilson. Mrs. Smith died January 7, 1999. Lincoln had worked in the maintenance department at Wilson Central Schools, retiring in 1976 after 10 years. He had previously worked for Hill-Shardon Oil in Lockport delivering oil during the 50's and 60's. Lincoln was a charter member of the Wilson Conservation Club. He was a member of the Wilson Fire Company and their Fire Police, the Newfane Golden Agers and the Wilson Golden Agers. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and bowler. Lincoln enjoyed playing Euchre with his many friends.Lincoln is survived by his children, Karen (the late James) Welch of Wilson, Charolette (Robert) Hartis of Charlotte, NC, Lois Connor of Newfane and Wayne (Jeanne) Smith of Chandler, AZ. Brother of Wilfred (Helen) Smith of Sanborn and the late Gerald, Harold, Harvey, Leroy Smith and Winifred Fritton; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive him.Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Kenneth H. Sherrie Funeral Home, 6139 East Avenue, Newfane on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be held at the Kenneth H. Sherrie Funeral Home, 6139 East Avenue, Newfane, NY on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Wayne Jagow officiating. Interment will be in North Ridge Cemetery, Cambria, NY.
