- John Jesse Fotus "Gus", age 87 of Bergholz (Town of Wheatfield), NY, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, on August 6, 2024 at the McAuley Residence in the Town of Tonawanda, after a brief illness. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on October 9, 1936; son of the late John P. and Ada (Davis) Fotus. John attended Union Springs High School, in Union Springs, NY, and served in the United States Army, 82nd. Airborne Division from 1954-1957, of which he was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, and the Parachutist Badge. John was employed at the Carborundum Company, and then Harrison Radiator as a Millwright, retiring in October 1999. He was a life long member of The Bridge Assembly of God, in Niagara Falls, where he served as an usher and van driver. Hobbies and interests included cars, woodworking, gardening, and carpentry.Survivors include his loving wife, Naomi Mary (Heisner) Fotus, whom he married October 25, 1955; a daughter, Lynne Joan LaVerdi (Nunzio) of Bergholz; a sister, Sally Glifton of Grand Rapids, MI; grandchildren, Ammie Fotus, Samantha (Alex) Soloman, John T. Fotus, Matthew Mettler, Sarah Brennan, Andrew Iorfida, Rachelle (Adam) Fleming, Brittany (Kirk) Lubecki, and Rebecca Haseley; a daughter in law, Noel Fotus; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janine Marie Iorfida; a son, John William Fotus; and sister, Marie Matsche.Friends may call at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield, on Sunday (August 25) from 4-8 p.m. Services will be conducted by Pastor Christopher Cooper, on Monday (August 26) at 10:00 a.m. in The Bridge Assembly of God, 9750 Niagara Falls Blvd., Niagara Falls, NY 14304. Interment will follow in Niagara Falls Memorial Park, with military honors.
