- Randolph Thurman Obituary
Randy Mark Thurman, 67, passed away on November 17, 2024 in Rochester, NY.
The son of Donald L. and Theresa R. (McNulty) Thurman, he was born on October 16th, 1957 in Saint Catharines, Ontario, Canada. He grew up in Niagara Falls, NY where he graduated high school in 1975 and was later enrolled as a student in Niagara Bible Institute. Upon being ordained into the ministry Randy launched himself into a lifelong pursuit of service – beginning with those he led and pastored at several churches in the United States and extending to the thousands of lives that he touched during his ministry travel across Africa and Europe as well as Central and South America. In the late 90’s Randy relocated to Sarasota, FL where he continued to raise his family and conduct ministry. This included leading worship ministry and a local church and helping in the formation and launch of a Bible college there. He also conducted business with several lifelong friends for a short season of time, before returning to full time ministry internationally.
Born into a musical family, and an avid musician himself, Randy was most known locally and abroad as a highly talented and accomplished guitarist. Having had the good fortune of recording on many studio projects, Randy even released his own self published album in the early 2000’s featuring his family and many friends. His musical legacy includes a recurring role as guitarist and vocalist in the regionally renowned Thurman Brothers Band, which he helped form in the 1980’s alongside his beloved brothers.
Randy is preceded to Heaven by his late parents, aunts and uncles. He is survived by his beloved ex-wife: Anita (Ventresca) Thurman of Boone, NC; Their children: Joshua Thurman of Boone, NC and wife Brianne; and Laura (Thurman) Hunt of Dana Point, CA; Three grandchildren: Claire, Abigail and Sofia; Five brothers: Paul (Colleen), David (Kate), Jack (Cathy Ruggiero), Robert (Cheryl), Patrick (Briana); Three sisters: Karen, Maryanne Francemone (Stephen Hart), Lynne Kanfoush (Daniel); as well as many, many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Randy’s greatest joys in life were the family which he loved, the ministry which he sacrificed for and the music which he created. His life and legacy are an example of a life that was given in service to God and to his fellow man. And those who knew him were better off because of it.
Family will be present on Sunday November 24, from 11-12:30PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY, where services follow at 12:30PM.
