A Niagara Falls paratrooper home
on a weekend pass to visit his mother
was found dead today in a gas-filled
garage at the rear of the family
home at 2710 Whitney avenue.
He was identified as 2d Lt.
Louis T. Davis, 22, of the 325th
Paratroop Squadron, 82d Airborne
division, at Ft. Bragg, N. C. He
celebrated his birthday on Friday.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Herbert Vockroth.
His body was found shortly before
9 a. m. by his mother, whose screams
attracted neighbors.
Coroner James W. Heary said he
was withholding a death certificate
pending investigation into the officer's
death.
Firemen, who administered first aid
for 45 minutes, reported that when
they arrived on the scene the body
was on the garage floor near the exhaust
pipe of a car whose motor was
running. The garage doors had been
closed, they said.
They also stated that the body was
warm, indicating that it had been in
the garage but a short time.
Lt. Davis was rushed in an air
force ambulance to Memorial hospital,
where he was pronounced
dead.
According to information obtained
by police at press time, Lt. Davis
was seen last by an acquaintance
shortly after 2 o'clock this morning.
He dad been participating in
winter maneuvers at Camp Drum
near Watertown and had obtained
a pass to visit here for the weekend,
it was reported.
Besides his parents, Lt. Davis is
survived,by his,wife, the former Jo
Anne Barber, who was at Ft, Bragg
when tragedy-occurred.
Friends of the family said that
Lt. Davis received his commission at
Niagara university last June. Before
attending the university he had been
stationed at a navy submarine school.
Hospital attendants said that the
body was to be sent to the Cobler
Funeral home.
Assisting Coroner Heary in his investigation
are Lt. Felix Jendraszek
and Patrolman Joseph Siuta.
