Katherine M. Beehler, a former medical receptionist and longtime American Red Cross volunteer, died Friday in Mount St. Mary's Hospital after a two-week illness. She was 86. Born Katherine Nash in Niagara Falls, she graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1937. She moved to Lewiston in 1942, a year after her marriage to Paul C. Beehler Jr., who died June 30, 1971. After her husband's death, Mrs. Beehler joined the office of Dr. Claude Fichte in Niagara Falls, where she worked as a receptionist until retiring in 1986. She was a Red Cross volunteer at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for more than 30 years. She also enjoyed gardening, baking and activities with the Lewiston Senior Citizens. Survivors include a son, Donald of North Tonawanda; a daughter, Jane VanOstrand of Kankakee, Ill.; and five grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hardison Funeral Home, North Fourth and Ridge streets. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
