NORTH TONAWANDA — Richard J. Miller, age 84, of the City of Tonawanda, Monday, April 18, 2011, at DeGraff Memorial Hospital. Born in North Tonawanda, he had been a resident of Tonawanda for the past 60 years and was the son of the late Howard and Marion (nee Kropp) Miller. A US Army Veteran serving during World War II, he had been employed as a machinist at Spaulding Fibre Co. in Tonawanda. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and a 50 year member of Tonawanda Hook & Ladder Co. Richard loved auto racing, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Noreen D. (nee Fordyce) Miller; a daughter, Cathy Lynn (Larry) Swartzlander of Hollidaysburg, PA and a grandson, Craig (Kara) Swartzlander of Cheektowaga; two sisters and a brother, Shirley, Marilyn and Robert; and was the brother of the late Raymond and Barbara. Also survived by nieces and nephews.
The family has requested that there be no visitation or funeral service. A private interment will be in Elmlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Church of Christ or to the SPCA of Erie County. Arrangements by John O. Roth Funeral Home, Inc., Tonawanda, NY.
