Stephen S. Siuta

NORTH TONAWANDA — Stephen S. Siuta, 89, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013, at DeGraff Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born December 25, 1923, he was the son of the late Walenty and Regina (Jarzab) Siuta. Stephen attended Niagara Falls High School, Niagara University, Buffalo State, University of Buffalo and Niagara College at Welland & Purdue on a National Science Scholarship.
Part of the Greatest Generation, he joined the military on March 6, 1943, and was part of the 566th Signal Aircraft Warning Battalion with General Patton's 3rd Army. Steve served in the European Theatre in areas such as Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes Forest, the Rhineland and central Europe. He earned five battle stars and was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Medal and the World War II Victory Medal, and was honorably discharged on December 5, 1945. He also attended the inaugural opening of the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. In 2004.
Stephen started out as a teacher at Gaskill Junior High School. He left teaching to become a design supervisor in engineering on the Niagara Power Project. Later he returned to teaching as an industrial arts teacher at Niagara Wheatfield High School. He then retired from teaching and started his own land surveying, engineering and real estate business known as Sanborn Realty. The company was later renamed Siuta and Associates. He was a founding charter member and past Commander (1990-91) of the American Legion Portage Post #1465. Most recently, he completed a WNY Heroes Honor Flight to the WWII Memorial with his son,Tom.
Stephen married his wife, Theresa Piechocki at St. Adalbert's Church in Buffalo on August 17, 1946. He loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He traveled numerous times to Europe, visiting Poland, England and France. Steve will always be remembered for his gentle and caring manner to everyone he met. He loved to have good conversations with friends and family. We will miss him forever and he will forever be in our hearts.
Stephen is survived by his wife of 67 years, Theresa (Piechocki) Siuta; five children, Thomas (Linda), Patricia (Kevin), Diane (Jim), Paul (Ailleen) and Audrey; 15 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Genevieve Mocniak and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, William, August, John, Walter and Joseph; sisters, Virginia Zasucha and Lottie Zak; and his grandson, Stephen Walter Siuta.
Friends may call Monday, December 16th, from 3-8 PM at ZAJAC FUNERAL HOME INC., 319-24th St., cor. Welch Ave., Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will begin at 9:30 AM Tuesday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Divine Mercy Parish, 24th and Niagara Sts., with Rev. Jacek Mazur officiating. Burial with military honors following in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
