- Harry Hendershot Dies After Wreck West of Monon
Harry Raymond Hendershot, 23, who lived west of Monon in Milroy township, Jasper county, died at 1:50 a.m. Thursday in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette, of injuries suffered in a truck crash early Monday. His pickup truck crashed into a tree on Ind. 16 west of Monon and he was unconscious when found.
Henderson had been in Monon Sunday night and was enroute home near the Milroy church when the truck plunged off the road and into a tree across the road from the Emory Newbold home.
The driver was thrown out of the truck cab and was lying in a pool of water when he was found by passerby.
Born in Milroy township, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hendershot, and worked on the family farm on Rensselaer, R. 5.
Surviving with the parents are three brothers, George who is in the Army and stationed in Germany, Harold (Bud) in the Navy and now at home on leave, and Earl Jr., at home, and three sisters, Mrs. Maxine Burns and Mrs. Alice Easterday, both of Wolcott, and Mrs. Betty Hadley of Monon.
He had lived in Jasper County all of his life and was a farmer. He had served in the U.S.Army from 1955 to 1957 and was a member of the U.S.Army reserves at Rensselaer.
Funeral services will be held at the Stewart Funeral Home at Monon, Sunday at 2 p.m. Rev. Robert Vaughn will officiate. Burial will be in the Milroy cemetery with the U.S. Army Reserves of Rensselaer in charge of the graveside services. Friends may call after 7 p.m. this evening.
