- David Barlow Swift of Burt, NY passed away on July 18, 2017 at Eastern Niagara Hospital in Lockport, New York. He was born on April 15, 1947 in Lockport, NY, son of the late Robert and Genevieve Townsend Swift. He was a decorated Vietnam veteran serving in the Army as a Spec 4 during the Tet Offensive where he received the bronze star and the distinguished Soldiers Medal for bravery when he dove into a raging river saving the lives of Vietnamese children. After serving in the war he returned to his position at Harrison Radiator where he retired. He had a passion for antique cars and was one of the founders of the Olcott Cruise Night. He also enjoyed boating and fly-fishing on Lake Alice and operated a booth at Gordy Harper’s Bazaar specializing in classic vinyl records. He is survived by his fiancée Cindy Culverwell of Burt, NY, his daughter Amy Cummings (Lockport, NY) and son Ronald (Wende) Swift (Appleton, NY), four grand children; Brooke and Jameson Cummings of Gasport, NY and Andrew and Kevin Swift of Appleton, NY, sister Sue Ann (Douglas) Brown (Newfane, NY), step-daughter Hayley Lippman (Burt, NY) several nieces and nephews and life long friend Richard Leddy of Murfeesboro,TN. He was predeceased by his brother John Swift. Friends and family may call on Thursday 3-7pm with funeral services held 10am Friday at Rutland-Corwin Funeral Home, Inc. 2670 Main Street, Newfane, NY.
