North Tonawanda. April 27.-Coroner
J. E. Helwig will Investigate the burning
to death of Mrs. Julia Sherman and
Mrs. Emma Meahl of Niagara Falls
and Arnold Cumrow of North Ridge, In
an automobile accident on the Lehigh
Valley railroad crossing on the Ellicott
creek road last Saturday night.
The inquest will be held at that city
hall. As the death of Adelbert Sherman
of Niagara Falls, the fourth memb
e r , of the automobile party, occurred
In Erle county, the investigation will
have to be held by Erie county officials.

All four, who were riding In Adel-
bert Sherman's automobile when it
was hit, by a Lehigh Valley freight
train at the Ellicott creek crossing,
Tonawanda, are dead.
Sherman's body has been recovered
from the creek. His forehead was
crushed In and it is. probable he was
dead before he fell, in the water.
Those who died at the Tonawanda
hospital were Mrs. Julia Sherman,
wife of the owner of the machine
Mrs. Emma Meahl, wife of Jacob
Meahl, Niagara Falls, and Arnold
Cumrow of North Ridge road, Ransomville.
Mr. and Mrs. Sherman .are survived
by two children and Mrs. Meahl
is survived by two children and her
husband.
According to.Mr. Meahl, Mr.Sher-.
man and the party drove to the Buffalo
pubic market to get groceries..
and supplies for Sunday and were
on their way home. They were
headed for North Tonawanda, expecting
to leave Cumrow at his board-
ing house in Tonawanda,
' Mrs. Meahl and Mrs. Sherman
were sisters.
Mr. Sherman drove a Chevrolet
touring car. After the fire, there
was nothing'left of the machine but.
the engine and twisted iron in the
ditch, down an embankment, 20 feet;
below the track.
