Oapt, .Stephen- V, Saleno died at h is
home at Montreal, North Carolina, on
T u e s d a y . The r e m a i n s will be brought
to t h i s city for iivtermient and the funeral
will be held a t 2::30 o'clock tomorrow
a f t e r n o o n from St. Pauil's M. K. Church.
Capt. Saleno was at one time a promi-
nentt residedent of N i a g a r a Falls and he
was very well known here.. He was born
N o v e m b e r 22, 1833. Many years ago he
was in the g r o c e r y business with S . T.
Murray of this c i t y in the store on Falls
Street now occupied by D. L y n c h &
Sons. Later he went into the hardware
b u s i n e s s here and o p e n e d a s t o r e where
t h e Electric City Bank is now located.
Along in the e i g h t i e s he sold his hardware
b u s i n e s s t o . G . S . H a y n e s and he be-
ca m e identified with the Michigan Pipe
Wire Company. His work for that c o m -
pa.ny caused him to travel e x t e n s i v e ly
through different States and hee removed
from Niagara Falls and later.
took up his residence in . Chicago. A
y e a r or s o a g o he left C h i c a g o and went
to Montreat in North Carolina for his
health.
At the time of his d e a t h his entire
f a m i l y , with t h e - e x c e p t i o n o.f his s o n .
were at t h e bedside. He l e a v e s , besides
his wife, three d a u g h t e r s . Mrs. Court-
ri g h t of Inwood, Ont.". Mrs.. W a r n e r of
Buffalo, and one d a u g h t e r , married, res
i d i n g In Chicago: and o n e son. Samuel
of S e a t t l e . Wash.
The deceased w a s . c a p t a i n of t h e local
m i l i t i a , c o m p a n y during the Civil
War'. He married Miss J e n e t t e Tompkins,
a d a u g h t e r of the late Samuel
T o m p k i n s of La S a l l e and a s i s t e r of
Henry Tompkins of that v i l l a g e . Capt.
S a l e n o w a s of- French C a n a d i a n stock
and when he first settled in Niagara
F a l l s he spelled his n a m e Saehlenou,
