Robert A. Towne, 3-year-old eon ef
Mr. aad Mra. Roy A. Towne, of the
Adams Center road was struck by an
automobile driven by William Roaby
of Norfolk at 6:30 Sunday night and
fatally Injured.
The accident was said by eye witnesses
to be unavoidable. There
waa a atriag of several cars paeslag.
Two children ran down the road and
seeing a chance, darted acroea to
the other- side. They were followed
by the little Towne lad, who hesitated
while one car passed. Another,
the one which struck him was about
20 feet behind the first As soon aa
the first car which was driven by
Dr. O. A. Foote of Dexter had passed,
the lad ran into the path of the
approaching car. Roaby. the driver,
turned clear into the ditch on the
left hand side of the road la aa attempt
to avoid the accident but
could not.
The little fellow was struck by
the right hand fender of the car and
knocked to the road. The fall broke
hia left leg and caused other severe
injuries, resulting ln concussion of
the brain.
The driver of the car collapsed
and could do nothing to aid the boy.
Dr. Foote, who aaw the accident, returned
and rendered first aid. He
then took the lad to the Mercy hospital
arriving there a little after
He waa assisted there by Dr. Maurice
D. Barnette. The boy's leg was
set and he regained consciousness
and rallied for a short time. It waa
believed then that he would survive.
However, the boy waa suffering
from a severe concussion ot the
brain, and his life faded out at about
8:30.
Robert Towne was the only son of
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Towne. They
have three other children, Leona,
Laura and Jeanette. Mrs. Towne
waa formerly Miss Iola Taylor of
Watertown.
