TOWN OF NIAGARA — Loraine M. Hugill, of the Town of Niagara, died on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 in Mount St. Mary's Hospital. He was 84. Born in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania on July 3, 1926, Loraine was the son of the late Nellie Craft.
Loraine attended Pennsylvania schools and served in the US Army during World War II as Cannoneer with the Battery C 945th AAA AW Bn and with the H & S CO 656th ENGR TOPO BN. In June of 1951, he married the former Delores Smeal and settled in Niagara Falls. Mr. Hugill worked for the Olin Chemical Company as a chemical operator for many years, retiring in 1988. He was a longtime member of Calvary Lutheran Church and served as a Boy Scout leader for Troop 1 for 25 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Portage Post 1465. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Delores (Smeal) Hugill; his loving daughters, Debrah (Gerald) Townsend of Greenwood, SC, Vickie (James) Birjukow of Sanborn and Carol (Daniel, Sr.) Wirth of the Town of Niagara; his loving grandchildren, Charlotte (David) Michalski; Jonathan (Cheri) Townsend, Amanda (Jason) Carozzi, Jamie Birjukow, Rebecca, Michelle and Daniel Wirth; three great-grandchildren, Cameron Townsend, Franklin Townsend and Brian Butkowski, Jr; a niece, Barbara Todd (Jim) of Rogers, Ohio. He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothea Copeland; and a nephew, David Copeland.
Friends may call on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 AM. Interment will be held at Acacia Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church, 4001 McKoon Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14305.
