Dorothy “Dot” May Treadwell Roth, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025, at age 91.
Dot is survived by her twin brother Elwood and his wife Patricia and her children Cynthia Schultze Newell and her husband Richard, Jon Schultze and his wife Nancy, Jeffrey Schultze and his wife Lisa, and grandchildren Elisabeth, Michael, Rachel and Michelle. She is also survived by her stepchildren Lynda Guenther and her husband Walter, James Roth and his wife Diane, Julie Jolson and her husband Scott, and step grandchildren Mark, Devon, Deirdre, Patrice, David, Andrew, and Michelle. Dot was preceded in death by her second husband, Wesley A. Roth, her first husband, Helmuth W. Schultze, and her sister, Lois Miller and her husband, William.
Dot was born in Niagara Falls, New York on August 28, 1934 to Elwood and Dorothy Dickinson Treadwell, the youngest of 3 children. She graduated from LaSalle Jr.-Sr. High School in 1952 and attended Alfred State Technical Institute, earning her associate’s degree in 1954.
She was a secretary for many years, a stay-at-home mom who raised 3 children, and an event planner for the University of Connecticut’s conference center. Dot also volunteered as a Girl Scout cookie mom and PTA newsletter secretary among other roles. Dot lived in various places over the years, including Niagara Falls, New York; Morristown, New Jersey; Farmington, Connecticut; Naples, Florida; West Harwich, Massachusetts and Charleston, South Carolina. Dot was a very sociable person and made friends wherever she went.
In her free time Dot enjoyed travel, swimming, golf, needle crafts, reading and spending time with family. She will also be remembered for her excellent apple pie and bolognese spaghetti sauce.
Dot will be laid to rest in Lockport, New York with her parents and grandparents. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Dot’s memory to: Cure Alzheimer's Fund (curealz.org) and/or local food banks.
