BUFFALO — JoAnn Demler, of the Town of Wheatfield, NY, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, in Buffalo General Hospital.
She was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on August 17, 1952, the daughter of Glee M. (Wagner) Treichler of Sanborn, NY and the late Robert E. Treichler.
JoAnn graduated from Niagara-Wheatfield High School, Fredonia and Buffalo State. She was a Special Education teacher with the Niagara Wheatfield School System for 27 years, with most of her time teaching at Edward Towne Middle School. JoAnn was very actively involved in all of the school's events and activities. She was an avid knitter and enjoyed her Bible study groups and gardening.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 37 years, Dale A. Demler; two sons, Jon (Carla) Demler of Fort Drum, NY and James Demler of Youngstown, NY; one granddaughter, Maggie Demler; three sisters, Gail (Kenneth) Terhaar of Rochester, NY; Nancy (James) Johnson of Baldwinsville, NY; and Jane (Ronald) Scudder of Rochester, NY. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will be present on Friday from 3-8 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Matthew D. Kofahl officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made in her name to the JoAnn Demler Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Edward Towne Middle School, 2292 Saunders Settlement Road, Sanborn, NY 14132.
