Ella Mae Evans Formerly of Niagara Falls and Lewiston
Ella Mae (Smith) Evans, age 90, of Cove Place, Tavares, FL, and a former resident of Niagara Falls and Lewiston, NY died Monday, January 29, 2001 in the Lake Eustis Care Center, Eustis, FL after a brief illness. Born in Carmens Mills, PA on April 21, 1910, the daughter of the late Dave and Adda (johns) Smith, she moved to Niagara Falls, as a child. She was a high school graduate. Mrs. Evans began her career as a telephone operator for the New York Bell Telephone Company in Niagara Falls, and retired as an office manager after many years of service. Locally, she was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston, past matron of the Niagara Frontier Chapter No. 658 Order of the Eastern Star, and a life member of the Flagler Chapter No. 355 Order of the Eastern Star, the Telephone Pioneers, and the âThursday Nightersâ� Home Extension of Lewiston. Moving to Tavares, FL in 1975, Mrs. Evans was an active. member of the community, where she belonged to the Central Christian Church of Tavares, the Telephone Pioneers, and the Tavares Recreation Association. Her husband, Lewis Evans, whom she married on October 13,1934, predeceased Mrs. Evans in 1972. Mrs. Evans is survived by several nieces and nephews and their families. Funeral services were held in Florida on Wednesday, January 31, 2001. The Rev. Rex T. Stewart will conduct a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery, 763 Portage Rd., Niagara Falls on Saturday, February 3, 2001 at 10 a.m. in its Mausoleum. The Otto Redanz Funeral Home, Niagara Falls, is handling local arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Good Days & Special Times, 2440 Sheridan Dr., Tonawanda, NY 14150-9416.
