Donato “Danny” Giancola, 94, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Schoellkopf Health Care Facility in Niagara Falls, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Sabatino and Immaculata (Quaglia) Giancola.
He married Antoinette “Dedy” (Damiano) Giancola on May 22, 1948 in St. Joseph’s Church. Antoinette passed away on May 6, 2016. Danny was employed with the Nabisco Shredded Wheat Co. for 44 years and retired in the early 1980’s.
Mr. Giancola was a lifelong parishoner of St. Joseph’s Church and a member of their Holy Name Society, Ushers Club and Legion of Mary Societies. He also served as a Eucharistic Minister, Sacristan, Altar Server and the Church Porter at St. Joseph’s Church. Danny also volunteered at St. Joseph’s Church serving door to door for Catholic Charities and bingo. He was the recipient of the Diocese of Buffalo’s St. Joseph the Worker Award and the Pine Avenue Business Association’s Cittadile Speciale Award.
Danny was a volunteer at Memorial Medical Center for 34 years up until 2018 serving the coffee cart and known there for wearing a numerous selection of hats while volunteering to cheer up the patients and also for making Boo Boo Bunnies for the children. He also served as a Eucharistic Minister at Memorial Medical Center and Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital.
Mr. Giancola is survived by his children, Donna (Jeff) Forrai, Sabatino “Sam” (Maralynn) Giancola and Maria (Tom) Arist; grandchildren, Shana Croft, Ian Croft, Jacob Goodman, Faith Goodman, Gabriel Forrai, Teresa (Christopher) Niver, Daniel “D.J.” (Ashley) Giancola, Anthony (Melinda) Arist and Thomas (Sandi) Arist ; great grandchildren, Gavin Allen, Gianna Giancola, Adrianna Giancola, Abigail Arist, Ryan Arist, Emma Arist and Ellie Arist. siblings, Henrietta (late Albert) D’Amore and Lorraine (Angelo) Ciraolo; predeceased by daughter, Judy Croft and grandchildren Jeremy Croft and Ryan Croft. Survivors also include several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Schoellkopf Health Center for their compassion, caring and kindness and always treating us as family.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 28th from 3-7 P.M. at M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 29th at 10 A.M. at the Holy Family Parish, St. Joseph’s Church Site, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Entombment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept 142, Memphis, TN, 38101.
