NIAGARA FALLS — Frances Emily Gentzke, 92, of 75th Street, died Friday, August 6, 2010, in Schoellkopf Health Care Facility. Born September 19, 1917, in Niagara Falls, NY, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Frances (Legg) Jeynes. Mrs. Gentzke attended the former Pacific Avenue School and graduated in 1936 from LaSalle High School. She was employed in the office of the former Spirella Garment Company, prior to marrying Harley H. Gentzke on March 16, 1941, in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Tonawanda. They had been married for 67 years at the time of Mr. Gentzke’s death on March 23, 2008.
As a child, Mrs. Gentzke was a member of First United Methodist Church of Niagara Falls. She was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a member since 1950 of Grace Lutheran Church, Niagara Falls. She had a love for music, especially country, German and Polka. She enjoyed listening to and attending Terry Buchwald performances. She and her late husband enjoyed dancing and were members of the Club Lorelei in Hamburg, NY, and frequently visited the Club Heidelberg in St. Catharines, Ontario. They also enjoyed many excursions with Ramblin’ Lou's travel group and Walter Ostanek. She enjoyed gardening and most of all spending time with her family and many friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley (James) Jones of Niagara Falls and Linda (Salvatore) Ippolito of Fredonia, NY; four grandchildren, James M. Jones of Chicago, IL, Laurie A. Jones of Clearwater, FL, Amy Ippolito and Michael Ippolito, both of Fredonia; three sisters-in-law, Virginia Kopp and Eleanor Gentzke, both of North Tonawanda and Anna Gentzke of Tonawanda; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Gentzke was predeceased by a sister Winifred E. Maslen; and a granddaughter, Kelly Nicole Ippolito.
Family will be present Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Wednesday in Grace Lutheran Church, 736 Cayuga Drive at Pershing Avenue, Niagara Falls, with the Rev. Erwin R. Brese officiating. Burial will be in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Town of Lewiston. If desired, memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 736 Cayuga Drive, Niagara Falls, NY 14304.
