- Robert E. Wackett, 98 of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on April 6, 2017 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Buffalo, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Albert J. and Mary (Cancilla) Wackett.
Robert was a lifelong resident of the Niagara Falls area. He attended local schools, graduating from Niagara Falls High School in 1937 and later Niagara University in 1950. Robert served in the United States Army during World War II with the 106th Infantry Unit. He was involved in the campaigns of the Central and Western Pacific, and awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge and Good Conduct Medal. Robert was employed as a case worker for the Niagara County Department of Social Services for 33 years retiring in 2001 at the age of 83. He was an avid golfer and bowler, but his true passion in life was baseball.
Mr. Wackett was predeceased by his wife of 29 years, Lilian E. (Dixon) Wackett on December 10, 2004. He is survived by a step-son, John (Joyce) Pollock as well as several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by six brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday April 11th from 10 – 11 a.m. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Military Honors.
