Samuel P. Bellew, 1070 North Military
road, for the past eight years a
city employe, died Saturday afternoon
at 3 o'clock in the home of his sister,
Mrs. G. W. Brookhouser, 520 Cedar
avenue. Funeral services will be held
in his home in North Military road
tomorrow morning at 8:30 o'clock and
in St. John de La Salle church, Buffalo
avenue, at 9 o'clock. Burial will
be in Rlverdale cemetery.
Mr. Bellew was 49 years old and a
native of Mumford, N. Y. A son ol
the late Mr. and Mrs. Patrick S. Bellew,
he came to this city with his
parents 35 years ago and had lived
here since. In his youth he was
active In athletics and was catcher for
the. old Stars and Stripes baseball
team and later manager and trainer
of the team, which was one of the
most prominent and popular baseball
teams in the city's athletic history.
Mr. Bellew worked until March 22,
A week ago yesterday he visited his
sister's home and became too ill to return
to his own home. His death has
caused sincere sorrow among a wide
circle of friends.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Cyrena
Bellew, and a son, Samuel P., Jr., and
the following sisters and brothers:
William J., of Hutchinson, Kan., John
K, Al E. and James F., all of Tacoma,
Wash.; Paul G. and Mrs. Brookhouser,
both of this city; Mrs. Lew Dean,
Boston, Mass., and Mrs. William B.
Schum, Miami, Fla.
