NIAGARA FALLS — Thomas H. Kennedy of Niagara Falls, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2011 after a brief illness. He was 89. He was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on September 24, 2011, a son of Thomas H. and Maryann (McCartney) Kennedy, Sr.
Mr. Kennedy moved to the United States when he was six, attended local schools, and graduated from Trott Vocational School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Aerial Gunner from 1942 to 1946, serving in the European Theater from 1944-1946. Mr. Kennedy received numerous citations including the American and European Service Medals, African and Middle Eastern Service Medals, Good Conduct and World War II Victory Medals and the European Theater Battle Star. After the War, he worked at Union Carbide where he retired as a Supply Engineer. He enjoyed coaching hockey, bowling, was a member of the Niagara Falls Auxiliary Police and a member and past Commander of VFW Post 917.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Anita (Turrill) Kennedy; two daughters, Patricia Kennedy of Hillsdale Michigan and Anita (Angelo) Fama of Niagara Falls; five grandchildren, Tammy Kennedy, Shannon (James) Barker of Niagara Falls; Sheri Fama of California, Kari (Todd) Birchfield of Hillsdale, MI and Angelo Fama II of Niagara Falls. Mr. Kennedy is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Nicholas and April Shook and Kyle and Christian Barker.
Friends may call at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Ave. on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM, where services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
