- Helen I. Walezak, 97, of the Town of Tonawanda, passed away on December 3, 2020 at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Catherine (Klos) Walezak.
Helen graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1941. She was an Auxiliary Policewoman with the Niagara Falls Police Department for 20 years until her retirement in 1989. She also worked as a Licensed Real Estate Agent for several years.
Helen was a member of the Niagara Falls Police Club, The New York State Association of Retired Law Enforcement Personnel, and an Honorary Member of the New York State Sheriff’s Association. She was also a member of the Metropolitan Opera Guild of New York City, and active with the Opera Buffs of Western NY, where she served on the Board of Directors for many years. In addition, she volunteered with the Niagara Falls Chapter of the American Red Cross, and also with the Niagara County SPCA, where she was a “Grand Friend” member.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Susan (Thomas) Maio of Englewood, OH, and her sons, Paul Ensminger, of North Tonawanda and Daniel Ensminger of Reading, MA, as well as 3 grandsons.
There will be no prior visitation or services. If desired, memorial offerings may be made to the Western New York Chapter of the American Red Cross, 786 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14209.
