Frank L. Balys, Sr., 76, of the Town of Niagara, NY, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 in Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY, following a brief illness. Born on May 17, 1938 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Kutlina) Balys.
Mr. Balys was a lifelong resident of the Town of Niagara, NY. Frank attended local schools and graduated from the former Bishop Duffy High School in 1956. On October 11, 1958, he married the former Eva L. Brinkman in Calvary Baptist Church. For 42 years, Mr. Balys was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, where he retired in 2002 as a maintenance supervisor. In his younger years, Frank coached his sons sports teams and supported his daughter's activities. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Balys looked forward to his annual trips to Orange Lake, FL. Frank's life was centered around his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his beloved wife, Mr. Balys is survived by four children, Frank L. (Cathy) Balys, Jr. of Holly, NY, Debra (James) Pfohl of Jacksonville, FL, Daniel (Russell) Balys of Chicago, IL and Joseph Balys of the Town of Niagara, NY; six grandchildren, Matthew (Tara), Ryan (Christie), Christopher, Erik, Maya and Joshua; one sister, Elizabeth 'Betty' Birmingham of Lewiston, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no prior visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, January 8th at 10:00 a.m. which will be celebrated in St. Vincent de Paul Parish at the St. Leo's worship site, 2748 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Private entombment will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to a charity of one's choice.
