  Niagara Gazette Roy W. Shafer, 85, formerly of Saunders Settlement Road, died Sunday (May 24, 1981) in Fairchild Manor Nursing Home, after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of the Lewiston area, he operated the former Shafer Cinder Supply Co. for over 20 years. He later worked as a custodian at the Colonial Village School for many years. He retired in 1966. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. He was the husband of the late Katherine (Stamler) Shafer and the late Marie (Springfield) Shafer. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Carl (Hazel) Falkner of Youngstown and Mrs. Loren (Dolores) Dick of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, Roy J. Shafer of North Tonawanda; a stepson, Billie M. Springfield of Alexandria, Ya.; a sister, Mrs. Arthur (Mlldred) Wittcopp of DeWitt., N.Y.; also 11 grandchildren, a great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Private funeral services were held today at the Otto Redanz Funeral Home. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made to the Niagara Lutheran Junior-Senior High School, the family said.
