- Sterling Rank, affectionately known as Paca by his family; a nickname given to him by his granddaughters Sarah and Aimee Rank died peacefully at home Friday November 24. His son Randall and both grandaughters had been caring for him along with local hospice assistance at the end.
Sterling was the youngest of four children born to Everett and Evelyn Rank in Fresno. He graduated from Fresno State, married Clayre Roth and together they raised three children, Pam, Randy and Rick. Sterling retired from Merced City School District where he worked as a guidance counselor and teacher at Yosemite High School.
Sterling had a deep appreciation for nature and the outdoors and was always up for an adventure. Yosemite was a favorite. But his travels included several trips across the U.S. and several months spent in Europe with Clayre. Friends and family hold fond memories of time spent hiking, playing or enjoying a meal. He will be missed.
Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2017 at Ivers & Alcorn Funeral Home at 901 Main St. in Merced.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Belmont Memorial Park 201 N. Teilman Avenue in Fresno, CA.
