Suicide Verdict
Given in Death
of Falls Victim
Funeral services for Mrs. Jacob
F. Streicher, 58 years old, 2455
Cleveland avenue, who was carried
to her death over the American
cataract here after wading into the
upper rapids 100 feet west of Goat
Island bridge early yesterday after-
noon, will be held Monday at 10:30
a.m. at the Bell funeral chapel in
Main street, with the Rev. Arthur H.
Schmoyer, D.D., pastor of Zion
Evangelical Lutheran church, offici-
ating. Interment will be in Oak-
wood cemetery.
Mrs. Streicher, whose body was re-
covered within 20 minutes of the
time witnesses saw her carried over
the brink of thefalls, had been in
ill health for some time and was
despondent, members of her family,
who identified the remains at the
More and Sons funeral parlot, Ni-
agara Falls, Ont., said today.
Tentative identification was made
shortly after witnesses had seen her
wade into the rapids by papers
found in a purse she abandoned
with her coat and hat on the bank
of the river. Also found in the
purse was a card reading "All I have
I leave to my son, Harold, and Anna
and Jacob."
The body was recovered by Bert
LeBlond, of the Maid-of-the-Mist
Styeamship company from the pool
at the foot of the falls in record
time. It usually requires several
days for the body of a person that
goes over the falls to appear on the
surface.
A certificate of suicide by drown-
ing was issued by Dr. e.t. Kellam,
coroner, of Niagara Falls, Int., who
was called when the body was re-
covered.
Mrs. Streicher is survived by her
husband, Jacob f., and one son,
Harold H. Mestler, of Newfane.
Born in Rochester, she had resided
in Niagara Falls for the past ten
years.
