The Town of Tonawanda recorded its
third swimming pool death in 16 days
last night when 2-year-old David M.
Buchanan, son of Mr and Mrs. Charles
H. Buchanan, 3000 Eggert Road,
drowned in the family swimming pool.
Two brothers, Thomas V., 17. and
Victor S. Lazzaro Jr., 15, of 19
Deumant Terrace, were electrocuted
May 21 while cleaning a pool in their
backyard.
Police said the body of the Buchanan
boy was discovered by his
father about 7 p.m. floating face down
in the circular above-ground pool The
family had just finished eating dinner
and the boy was left unattended for a
few minutes.
Mr. Buchanan pulled the boy from
the 3-foot deep water and a neighbor.
Norman H. Scheurich, called police.
David was taken to Kenmore Mercy
Hospital where he was pronounced
dead upon arrival. A certificate of
death due to accidental drowning has
been issued. The boy apparently
climbed to the top of the pool despite
the presence of other children in the
yard.
David is survived by three sisters
and four brothers ranging in age from
four months to 13 years. Other
survivors are his maternal
grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. LaVerne
Fromm, Town of Tonawanda. and
several aunts and uncles
Funeral arrangements are
incomplete at this time and are being
handled by the Dietrich Funeral Home.
