- Of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2016, at her home under the care of her beloved family. A life-long resident of Sanborn, she was born on July 3, 1921, the daughter of the late Donald F. and Frances [Hudson] Calkins, Sr.
Mrs. Hoffman was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sanborn for more than 80 years. She took great pleasure in many church activities including serving as a church Trustee and teaching Sunday school. In recent years she was a member of Hope Methodist Church. She served on the finance committee and was active with the United Methodist Women. She sang in both church choirs.
Mrs. Hoffman graduated from LaSalle High School and from Marietta College with a degree in Business Administration. Mrs. Hoffman served on the Board of Education of the Niagara Wheatfield School District from 1983 - 1989. She also served as Treasurer of the school district and later was employed in the district business office.
Mrs. Hoffman enjoyed civic activities and was a Girl Scout leader and food pantry volunteer. She enjoyed bowling and singing with the Lewiston Larks choral group.
Mrs. Hoffman was the wife of the late Wilfred Allan Hoffman who died in July of 1991.
She is survived by two daughters, Dr. Deborah (Dr. Victor Duch) Hoffman and Nadine (John) Langer, a daughter-in-law Linda Hoffman, a brother Donald F. (Ann) Calkins, Jr., eleven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hoffman was the mother of the late Gerald and Russell Hoffman.
Her family will be present on Friday from 10-11:00 AM at Hope United Methodist Church, 2914 Upper Mountain Road, Sanborn, NY, where a memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Matthew Kofhal officiating.
Memorials may be made in her name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Buffalo City Mission or to the Salvation Army.
Inurnment in White Chapel Memorial Park, Amherst, NY.
