GAINESVILLE, FL - Russell Wayne Thilkey, age 73, entered into eternal peace, January 10, 2011 in Gainesville, FL. Born February 12, 1937, he was the son of the late Frank Harold Thilkey and Edith Agnes Werth and was raised on Sunset Drive in Lockport, NY. Russell married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Elizabeth Mellenthien on March 10, 1956.
Russ graduated from Lockport Senior High School in 1954. He was a retired steel worker at Gueteral Steel, formerly Simonds Saw and Steel of Lockport, NY. He and his wife, Joyce relocated to Gainesville, FL, 25 years prior to his passing. Russ was an avid N-Gauge train collector and enjoyed spending time reading and the warmth of the Florida sun.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, partner and friend of 54 years; his children, Deborah (John) Hite of Aurora, CO, Frank (Lisa) Thilkey of East Amherst, Brenda (Steve) Hernandez of Aurora, CO, Wayne (Robin) Thilkey of Aylett, VA and the late Rebecca Thilkey; his loving grandchildren, Bliss, Joelle, Ashley and Blake Thilkey; and sister, Audrey Piparata of East Syracuse, and was predeceased by Pearl Barron-Broecker.
Friends may call Sunday, January 16, 2011 from 2:00 to 7:00 PM at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport, NY, where services will be held Monday, January 17, 2011 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Cold Spring Cemetery, Lockport, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
