Funeral services for Walter
F. Balling, 66, past president of
Balling Construction Co. Inc.,
of Tonawanda are scheduled
for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St.
Francis of Assisi Church, Tonawanda.
Balling, who died unexpectedly
Saturday in DeGraff
Memorial Hospital, is survived
by wife Thelma (nee Peters)
Balling.
A native of Tonawanda, he
served as president of Balling
Construction for 28 years and
retired in February, 1980.
Balling became an apprentice
mason in 1932, following his
graduation from Tonawanda
High School, and joined Local
49, Bricklayers and Masons.'
Balling Construction reached
an all-time high contracting
output in 1968 of $16 million.
One project was/ttf?TTthmillion
Waterfront School in Buffalo.
A Navy veteran of World
War II, Balling was a member
of St. Francis of Assisi Church;
Twin City Council 413. Knights
of Columbus; Frontiersmen's
Post 7545, Veterans of Foreign
Wars; the American Legion,
the Construction Industry
Employers Association and the
Tonawanda Civic Advisory
Committee. He served as pres-
ident of the Kiwanis Club of the
Tonawandas.
In addition to his wife.
Balling is survived by two
sisters, Mrs. Frances Brown of
Englewood, Fla, and Mrs.
Archibald (Gertrude) Clifford
of Tonawanda; two brothers,
Joseph Balling of Williamsville
and Jacob Balling of North
Tonawanda, and many nephews
and nieces.
